Noah did everything just as God commanded him.
Genesis 6:22 NIV
I’ve marked this verse twice in my Bible. Chapters 6 & 7 of Genesis hold this sentence. Short, sweet and to the point, yet important enough for it to be marked twice in Holy Scriptures!
I began to think of the task God asked of Noah. Insanity to many, why build an ark when there’s no rain? Yet the faithfulness and trust of Noah was precisely what saved him, his family and the future of mankind.
Noah did everything just as God commanded him. Woah! Do I do EVERYTHING just as God commands me? I’d be lying if I said I did. More often than not I grumble and complain, or better yet, try and negotiate with God for another task.
It’s not like God’s asking me to build an ark; but tasks that make me uncomfortable I shy away from and pretend I didn’t hear God.
As we spend these next weeks in prayer and fasting, what is God commanding you in your life? Does He want your time? Your service? Your surrender? Is God asking you for your marriage to be healthy? Your temper to be controlled? Your finances to get in order? Maybe God wants your kindness to be shown to a colleague, or your eyes fixed on Him.
Whatever God is asking and bringing to your mind and heart these next few weeks, let us be people who like Noah do “everything just as God commands us.”
Imagine the ripple effect in our community if we would be obedient! How might God move? Who might God save? How might we be blessed if we would just do exactly as He commands of us?
