Have you ever seen that Snickers candy bar commercial? The one where various people turn into some famous actors like Betty White, Joe Peschi or Robin Williams because they are easily annoyed and are angry with other people. It turns out they are hungry so they “grab a Snickers.” After taking a quick bite of the candy bar they turn back into themselves again because “you are not you when you’re hungry.”
That could easily be me in that commercial. I’m not talking about eating a Snickers bar to satisfy my hunger either; I’d rather have a Kit Kat anyway. I am talking about being easily annoyed and angered with people because I have not satisfied my spiritual hunger. I often find myself with a bad attitude or simply not being myself if I don’t take the time to have a spiritual Snickers candy bar that morning.
In John 15:4, Jesus says, “Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.”
Let me encourage you to take time to satisfy your spiritual hunger by daily spending time in God’s word. Set aside some time to simply sit and talk with Him. Just like you would talk with one of your friends. He’s listening, and longing to simply spend some time with us. Remember, you are not you when you are hungry – so grab a Snickers – a spiritual Snickers that is.
